Portfolio Photography

I spent this afternoon updating photographs of my work as part of an ongoing application that I’m undertaking.

The results will be available on my website next weekend.

For the next 5 days, however, I’ll be in the Big Apple!

In Progress – Interactive

Apologies for the lack of recent posts. The time of year, alongside the addition of work experience and an approaching trip to the ‘States has meant that I’ve been up to my eyeballs in work. Whilst this is no bad thing at all, it’s meant that this blog has been neglected somewhat.

The above photo shows an in-development screen shot of an interactive site that I am making for the De La Warr Pavillion. It will eventually serve to distill the essence of the building into a simple, multilingual experience.

I used the glorious sun this morning as an opportunity to go and take some photographs, which will be the focal point of the production.

Work Placement – CPB (UPDATE)

I know I promised an update each evening, but as the workload is proving quite tricky alongside uni, I’m going to consolidate it and type up my notes in one big batch once I’ve finished at the end of this week!

Work Placement – Coley Porter Bell

I will be starting a work placement at Coley Porter Bell in central London first thing Monday morning. Needless to say I’m incredibly excited and have spent the last few weeks making myself as porous as possible in order to absorb everything I can.

I will be updating this blog with my goings on each day, so if you’re interested, stay tuned!

Research – London Transport Museum

As part of my research for an interactive experience brief, I visited the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden today to see how they get their visitors to engage with the content. Alongside valuable information regarding user interaction/human-computer-interface, I loved this simple projection that ran across the walls and down onto the floor.

technically simple, but visually striking, I like that a lot.

I’ll post more on this project and detailed research findings later in the week, but i’ll leave it at these lovely (yet shoddily taken, sorry) images for now.

Research – D&AD (pt. 2)

Continuing my research for the D&AD HG Wells brief, I came across an interesting article by John Partington of Reading University for the International Relations journal. It’s called ‘H.G. Wells and the World State: A Liberal Cosmopolitan in a Totalitarian Age’.

A bit lofty perhaps, but it raises the interesting point that HG Wells was a strong advocate of some form of ‘world state’ in a time where the world was plagued with imperialism, fascism and intense nationalism. It also coincides with the period in which he wrote the books mentioned in the brief. Since nearly every novel covers political ground in the form of mistrust of the class system, I feel this could provide valuable knowledge and possibly a way into a creative solution. I’m unsure of the copyright issues, so the first part of the article can be read here: http://ire.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/17/2/233
